Apr 22, 2015 - That Macbook Air is only capable of 2560 x 1600 maximum resolution, according to. Two external displays up to 2560x1600 'daisy chained' via Thunderbolt. The GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) on a 2014 Air doesn't support 4K. Source: Using 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with your Mac (apple.com). I have my MacBook hooked up to an external monitor of 1920 x 1080 resolution. I don't use the MacBook screen at all. Every time I turn on my MacBook it displays on the external monitor as it should, but at the MacBook's 1280 x 800 resolution, which obviously looks nasty and stretched on the big monitor.
No one never tried to connect this laptop to bigger screen? I bought another cable HDMI - DVI-D which max resolution is 2560x1600 - it also doesn't work. Max I can get is 1680x1050 or 1600x1200:/ This looks like a very big disadvantage which is hidden by Lenovo - (only) Full HD is not something that world ends. There are bigger screens and higher resolutions.
I have never though that I need to check every single details given by Lenovo. Sorry Lenovo - next time I will choose other company. Hi necromax, Sorry for late reply.
I had missed Your question somehow. I had managed to get 2560x1440 resolution working with my Y580. Indeed, Lenovo says laptop is supporting HDMI 1.4 and it supports it, but it seems we cannot tell the same about drivers. I have been trying original Intel drivers, and those provided by lenovo and none of them was giving my an option bigger than 1920x1200. But with (I think those were original intel drivers) some newest drivers I got an options to set 'custom' resolution. You are specifying resolution and refresh rate for it.
With refresh rate 30Hz I was able to get 2560x1440 working fine. I am using that setup for 4 months and it looks OK.
I have been even watching some movies and testing performance by playing games and didn't see any serious defects connected with lower refresh rate. Best Regards, Dariusz. Hi nomrasco, Thanks for the info. Must have missed your reply in my mails. I have also managed to resolve the issue through intel custom resolutions!
Am using AXUS PB278Q monitor now InsideMan I think the Y580 manual mentions that it supports HD1.4. It is also mentioned in the article below: To answer your question, I am currently on Intel HD 4000 v.8.
Do note that I have only gotten the driver to work on the AXUS monitor via custom resolutions. Have not been able to do the same for dell monitors.
That's my point though. I've seen it mentioned in articles, but never from Lenovo directly (I haven't contacted support regarding this issue). I could not find it in the manual. It is no surprise that you can not get this to work with Dell monitors. I believe that only the two latest Dell monitors support 1440p or 1600p. I've almost given up already.
